Overseas Studies

TPR community has more NRIs settled in almost very well known countries. Either they are Citizens or holding PR, Green Card, H1B Visas. The Student Visas are given to students who proceed for studies; most go for higher education - Masters Degree or PhD programmes. Very few students, after passing 10th Std. scoring 90-95 percentage of marks, have chosen to go Singapore for pursuing Diploma Courses and the advantage they got is work 3 years after completion... Students also proceeded to Russia, Malaysia, Australia, UK, Germany, Finland, Sweeden, Japan apart from North America and Canada.

The first to go for studies to USA was Late Mr.Varaprasaadam and followed by Dr. Rajasekar... Most opted for citizenship. Now, almost 200+ are there in USA alone - many studying and work in their part times. In fact, the information is abundant now on the internet for asking. Some of the experienced well informed TPR persons at Chennai & elsewhere are striving their best to enlighten and guide any student / parent who wish to go study abroad.

Those interested to go abtoad for studies, get ready to prepare for the pre-requisite Qualifying Tests for respective countries you prefer. For example those proceed to USA must appear for GRE and TOEFL and remember high scores are very essential in such tests.

What is needed is PLANNING FIRST. If certain to make it happen also IMPORTANT is arrange FINANCE ahed - last minute pooling or entire as loan may not work.

Opportunities for graduate programs for your loved ones

Some of you may still be looking out for opportunities for graduate programs for your loved ones. U.S.A alone need not be the destination and IT or Software alone need not be the ones to be forced on. There are a few others, like the ones combined with Hydraulics with computing called as Hydroinformatics, an excellent course.

Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management can be another. These are graduate programs soon after undergraduate. They offer very decent scholarship (1500euros, of which 600 Euros is tution and balance 900 is very good amount to start with). After completion, job opportunity is also good. The degree is offered by a consortium of 5 universities within Europe and hence very highly respected. Unfortunately it has not been properly publicized. These are in existence for the past 6 years.

I would strongly recommend The first two links are for basically for budding civil engineers, while the thrid, I guess should fit in most of the fields. If you are already aware of this program, ignore this mail and if you need some info, pl go through the relevant web sites.

Higher Studies (MS) in Singapore

Here I have stated some information which will surely help you all to have an idea of higher Education (MS) in Singapore.

There are two major universities in Singapore

1.    NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE (NTU)
2.    NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY (NUS)

Applying for a course is very simple and the procedure is same for both the universities, but we have to apply separately on their respective websites.

The websites and links are mentioned, here, at the end.

To be in a safer side, it is better to apply for both the universities.

Documents to Be Submitted

1. TRANSCRIPTS & Degree Certificate (ATTESTED BY REGISTRAR OF RESPECTIVE University      - 1 to 6 or 7 semester Mark Sheets for Final Year Students) 
2. Photocopy of  PASSPORT
3. RESUME
4. RECOMMEDATION LETTER (From Atleast 3 Persons - May be Proffessor, Employer)
5. Statement of Purpose (Unique & no copying - which will Attract Selection Team)
6. Any other Paper Presentation Certificates, Implant Training Certificates, Co Curricular Activities, Whatever you think that will prove your Chance; please submit. This will surely improve your chance of getting In. 
7. FINANCIAL STATEMENT (If Possible) - From the bank Manager where you have ur account or ur father's stating that you have sufficient fund in that Bank (SGD 18000). Also get Attestation by a NOTARY PUBLIC officer in a 20 Rs Stamp Paper stating that ur father will take care of ur Expenses in Singapore for the stated Years.
8. 10th & 12th certificate (Attested)
9. TOEFL MARKS (If Not English Medium)
10. Get a letter from ur College that ur Medium of Study is in ENGLISH.

Period of Study

Finishing the Course in time Depends on the persons capability.

There are two options

1. With Project (Should be done individually) i.e., Dissertation
2. Without Project (Pure Course work)

COURSEWORK & DISSERTATION = 8 SUBJECTS + PROJECT
OR
COURSEWORK ONLY = 9 SUBJECTS + 1 (ISM) INDEPENDENT STUDY MODULE 
(Just a report or survey on the given topic)  or 10 subject (without ISM)

One can finish the entire course in 1 Year by selecting 4 subjects in each semester + Project 
OR 
5 subjects in any one semester and 4 subjects & ISM in another semester.
One can also take two ISMs, but only one in a semester.

Maximum Candidature period is 2 Years (Depends on the course) for full time student and
3 Years for Part time students.

You can select the number of subjects accordingly and the fees you have to pay for each semester you are enrolling.

Regarding Loan

Interest is 4% per year. It is enough to pay after completion of your studies. It is comparatively cheap here. For Example one who passed in Jan 2009 will start to pay the interest from April 2010. Till that period no interest and payment time is 20 years from April 2010.

Loan availing procedure is very easy. Only one guarantor is needed..... Anyone with valid passport of the age above 21 can sign. You can sign for your friend and in turn he can help you in signing for you. For SERVICE OBLIGATION 3 GUARANTEERS are needed.
